Myla’s hotspots part 1: New York
Myla tells us where to go for the best cocktails and the tastiest food in the Big Apple, and gives us the gen on the go-to neighbourhoods when shopping’s on your to-do list…
Hip new restaurants, cool bars, trendy shops – we all want the best tips, the inside track. So we asked Myla Dalbesio, the face of our Ode to Curves campaign, where she prefers to eat, drink, shop and step out. This time she tells us about her favourite destinations in New York, where she lives and works.
Brunch and dinner
“There’s no better way to start a lazy Sunday than a delicious late brunch at Prune. It’s friendly, the food is always fabulous and I’ve never left feeling hungry. There’s obviously a whole bunch of places to eat in New York in the evening, but my favourites are Fatteseau, Walter’s and Mission Chinese. For real American barbecue food you have to be at Fatteseau, but I head for Walter’s when I feel like oysters and steak. If you’re open to an experiment and you like oriental cuisine, Mission Chinese is highly recommended: very cool and right next to 169 Bar, a great place for drinking or dancing.”

Cocktails and concerts
“If you’re looking for a gig in New York, check out the bill at the Bowery Ballroom. It’s a place with a lot of history and fabulous acoustics, with great bands playing almost every week. New York is teeming with bars as well, but the view from the Rooftop Bar at the Wythe Hotel is hard to beat. The interior design of the bar at the Carlyle Hotel right by Central Park is really something. It’s full of fabulous paintings of animals at various locations in New York. I go there just as much for the afternoon tea as to try one of their divine martinis. It’s one of my favourite drinks, alongside cocktails like Aperol Spritz, Negroni or Manhattan with ice.”

“I’m not someone to go shopping in fancy luxury boutiques, but I’m crazy about anything vintage. So Williamsburg is one of my favourite neighbourhoods for shopping. Ten Ft. Single is a place I especially love: you really have to go there if you're looking to pick up a unique vintage dress or a cool designer jacket. I often find myself at Brooklyn Flee Market on Saturdays. You can rummage through the amazing vintage stuff, but there are also lots of stands selling great food. When I’m looking for a gift or something awesome for my apartment, I drop by Coming Soon. They have super original furniture there, interior accessories, hip jewellery and you always find some great gifts.”
